You've done it. I've done it. Everyone has done it. We've sat through classes and remembered zilch, nada, bupkiss...

In the world of academia, classes are designed to be easy for instructors to handle high student volumes and rank students on a standardized scale - not teach.

In the corporate world - Teaching product and job skills is paramount to the organization's survival, so the art of teaching and learning are critical.

Unfortunately, most training "pros" use an academic approach. May as well throw your money down on a crap table in Vegas. Results are marginal at best with techniques like that.

I use a different approach and it has worked miracles with even the oldest of dogs. In short, we must optimize the environmental and motivational variables conductive to cognitive learning.

For example, training on a Tuesday or Wednesday catches employees before they burn out and start thinking about the weekend, and after they sober up from the prior weekend. They usually have their battle armor on and are ready to go on these days, and have an ample opportunity to practice and repeat newly learned skills which helps long term memory imprinting before they resume weekend antics and forget everything.

By tuning the curriculium to users specific job functions we can optimize their interest. Showing a VP how to print labels makes as much sense as teaching a receptionist how to design a sales pipeline report - yet many "pros" do exactly that.

I seperate folks by job function, then spend time w/each group on specific skills to help them implement product functions that will reduce their effort and increase productivity. Sure it's a lot more work for me, but I am getting paid to actually improve your performance - so why shouldn't I pull out all the stops??

Very Happy
